Important News About Project Lucas…

It is with a very heavy heart that I must share with you that we have just been informed that we did not receive the Project Lucas Grant funds.  For the past six years, this grant has made it possible for us to do some amazing things with our students.  We are very grateful for our community partners, our parents, our students, our SACC staff, Dr. Roberts and the entire LSSD staff, and all who have contributed to Project Lucas in the past.

However, we don’t feel this is necessarily the “end” of Project Lucas.  We are looking at this as a new chapter to start writing for SACC!  On Monday, August 15, we will be having a staff meeting to start exploring ways that we can continue some of the elements that Project Lucas provided.  We will also be sharing ideas on how we can expand our opportunities.  There are endless possibilities out there and with such great partners, I feel this may be our best year ever!!

We want to see our students shine and enhance the learning the school day provides.  ”What can we do to help our students” will be the main question we try to answer at our staff meeting.  We will strive for excellence to be another piece in the student’s life that will enable him/her to grow and succeed.

One opportunity that we have already undertaken is partnering with Mrs. Beth Petty of the LSSD Family Resource Center.  Our 4th and 5th graders at each elementary school will be able to volunteer for a once a month community service project.  This will be done during the SACC time at their school.  If your child is interested in doing this, they may have already brought you home some information about it. I know other opportunities will be presented as well.
